PROCAD is a development partner for an Industry 4.0 research project led by the German Fraunhofer Society

As a development partner, PROCAD GmbH & Co. KG is contributing to the “CPPSprocessAssist” Industry 4.0 research project led by the German Ministry of Education and Research. Project aim is to improve equipment availability.

PROCAD has a number of customers who rely on Industry 4.0 scenarios. This means that their PRO.FILE PLM/DMStec solution interacts with their other systems and industrial components. Drawing from this experience, the German company specializing in product lifecycle management is lending its expertise to the “CPPSprocessAssist” research project. The research consortium consists of the Magdeburg-based Fraunhofer Institute for Factory Operation and Automation IFF, GESA Automation GmbH, PROCAD GmbH & Co. KG and Fasihi GmbH as development partners, and CeH4 technologies GmbH, IPT Gesellschaft für Innovative Particle mbH, Mitteldeutsches Bitumenwerk GmbH and ROBETA-Holz OHG as application partners.

The research project received two million euros in funding and aims to improve equipment availability by developing an assistance system based on cyber-physical production systems. The system consists of process conformity and sensor modules, access to documents is implemented through PRO.FILE. The integration with existing process control systems provides companies with distributed, responsive, and context-adaptive way to control their production and maintenance in line with Industry 4.0 practices. Maintenance and repair processes are automated, giving manufacturing companies predictive maintenance capabilities that allow them to reduce unplanned and costly downtime.

The system includes a mobile app and a server for data provision and data connectivity purposes that is being developed by the Fraunhofer Institute for Factory Operation and Automation. The first prototype controls access to equipment documents directly on site through the integration between PROCAD’s PRO.FILE PLM solution and the web-based service portal WEB inFACTORY by Fasihi GmbH. This is the key to reliable and timely service delivery as a critical component of Industry 4.0.
